I call this “turkey day” because I ALWAYS set it out at my house on Thanksgiving and let the family graze on it all day. It tastes similar to the pecans that you buy at Silver Dollar City and makes the house smell absolutely wonderful. Here it is:
Ingredients:
- 1 egg white
- 1 lb. pecan halves
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 3/4 tsp. salt
The Process:
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Coat a large baking sheet with butter-flavored nonstick cooking spray.
- Pour the egg white into a large bowl. Beat with a mixer at high speed until soft peaks form. Add the pecans and toss gently to coat completely.
- Combine the sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl and sprinkle over the pecans; toss to coat. Using a large slotted spoon, transfer the pecans to a baking sheet, shaking off the excess sugar. Arrange in a single layer.
- Bake for 1 hour, stirring after 30 minutes. Turn off the oven and allow the pecans to cool in the oven. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.
Pecans are the most expensive part of this recipe, but are definitely affordable. If you buy enough, you can also make a pecan pie to go with this special treat.
