Snack on a Shoestring: Peanut Butter Banana Wrap

By David & Martha Cox 04/26/2010

One of my favorite snacks on a shoestring budget is a peanut butter banana wrap.

This easy snack helps you get some tasty fruit in your diet, takes only a minute or two to prepare (there’s no cooking involved at all), and is surprisingly filling.  Some days, I just eat one of these for breakfast and wash it down with a glass of milk. It’s great.

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • Peanut butter
  • 1 tortilla

The Process:

  • Spread peanut butter over one side of a tortilla.  Use as much or as little as you want.
  • Completely remove the peel and place the banana in the center of the peanut butter’d tortilla.
  • Wrap the tortilla around the banana, and enjoy.

Bananas routinely sell for $0.30-$0.60 per pound–making them quite possibly the cheapest fruit in grocery stores across America.  A jar of peanut butter will only set you back a couple of dollars, and a bag of tortillas is roughly the same.  Bottom line: Peanut butter banana wraps are a simple snack that’s dirt cheap (and kids love them).

So whether it’s for breakfast or just to tide you over until suppertime, try out a peanut butter banana wrap ASAP.
