Easy Apple Crisps Recipe

By David & Martha Cox 03/29/2010

This recipe comes from my awesome friend, Eric Hays.  It’s a sweet apple treat that the whole family will love.  I hope you enjoy it.

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium-large apples peeled and sliced thin
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup butter (melted)

The Process:

  1. Preheat oven to 375.
  2. Mix together everything that is not apples in a bowl to make the topping.
  3. Place the thinly sliced and peeled apples in a 9×9 baking pan and then cover with the topping.
  4. Bake for 30 min.
  5. Serve with vanilla ice cream. Mmmmm…

This recipe comes together in just a little over 30 minutes, and is an excellent dessert to end any meal.

The key to preparing these apple crisps on a shoestring budget is to find a good deal on apples.  The most inexpensive time of year to make apple crisps would be sometime around October in the U.S.–when the apple harvest has just come in, and apples are ripe and plentiful.  Buy from a local orchard, if you can; even if it doesn’t save you any money, you’ll get better apples, and you’ll be supporting your local farmers.
