10 Minutes or Less: Cinnamon-Raisin Oatmeal
By David & Martha Cox 03/03/2010You’re running late for work or class; you’re trying to get ready; and you know you aren’t going to have time to fry some eggs or make french toast for breakfast. There’s simply no way you can have a meal ready (and partially eaten) in 10 minutes or less, right? Wrong.
Enter the Oatmeal
I know what you’re thinking: Oatmeal is about as bland as a meal gets, unless you buy a box of single-serving packets of oatmeal loaded with sugars and other ingredients (not very healthy, and not a very good way to cook and eat on a tight budget). The truth is, you can buy a box of Quaker Oatmeal and turn it into an awesome breakfast if you take 30 seconds to dress it up a bit.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 – 1/2 Cup of dry oatmeal (Quaker is the popular name brand, but off-brand varieties do exist)
- 1/2 – 1 Cup of milk or water
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of sugar (optional)
- A few raisins
The Process:
- Mix oatmeal and milk/water in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave for approximately a minute and a half, or until oatmeal thickens and becomes “sticky”
- Remove from microwave; sprinkle cinnamon, sugar, and raisins on top of oatmeal, and stir.
- Add a little milk, if the oatmeal looks too dry.
- Enjoy!
Oatmeal has plenty of health benefits, it doesn’t take long to make (just a few minutes), and it really come alive with a touch of fruit and cinnamon. Cinnamon is also considered by many to be an appetite-suppressant, so you’ll be less inclined to feel hungry before lunch.
